The ONE Gas internship program welcomed 18 college students this summer, each honing their skills as soon-to-be industry innovators and leaders.

Far from the stereotypical image of interns fetching coffee, these young professionals are helping shape the company’s future. Among them are Paige from Oklahoma State University and Lachlan from the University of Oklahoma, both engineering interns at Oklahoma Natural Gas.

“I really appreciate that they’re teaching me what it’s like to actually work here and see the process from start to finish,” Paige said. “It’s been rewarding to know what I’m working on will actually be implemented. One of my first projects was helping design part of a pipeline system that will go into a residential neighborhood.”

Both Paige and Lachlan have gained insights into natural gas engineering projects, from pipeline design to delivering natural gas to customers. Their contributions support Engineering teams in pipeline growth and rebuilding initiatives. Additionally, they’ve shadowed Field Operations co-workers, deepening their understanding of the construction and repair process.

Lachlan emphasized the impact of their work on both customers and co-workers.

“When you have a respect for what our Operations co-workers are doing, you want to do the best job possible to make it easier for them,” Lachlan said.

From learning about the wellhead-to-burner tip process to immersion in various aspects of the business, these Oklahoma Natural Gas Engineering interns have gained a profound understanding of the utility’s significance in customers’ lives.

“The Engineering projects are growing the company, very literally,” Lachlan said. “It’s going to serve customers by expanding the network of lines. The plans that I’m contributing to are the actual project that’s going to go into the ground.”
